The new laws coming in in Europe require a huge amount of empty space under the bonnet at the front. Along with a heap of other requirements about a pedestrian not being able to catch on the front edge of the bonnet as they go over it etc. I assume BMW have a fair grasp on the situation, but I'd expect to see very few "world cars" coming out in future with straight sixes.
