dick smith used to make a simple HEI ignition system that used your points as a low voltage switch and then drove your coil to produce good/fat sparks, regardless of engine speed and (to a lesser degree) battery voltage.

it made points last for ages as they were only switching a few hundred miliamps and were no longer arcing (the cause of points wear and settings changing).

kit used to cost $20-30. i had one in my old RA23 and i never had to buy points or reset the points thereafter.

nowadays, DSE and jaycar sell more complicated HEI/CDI systems but they're able to deal with a variety of contactless points (Hall effect, optical, reluctor, etc).

you could also get the roter, switch, coil and igniter from a compatible toyota dizzi.

is worth it - easier starts regardless of weather, good sparks thru the whole rpm range, less maintenance.
