I think they just Raise the stall converter and make the shifts a bit quicker.
I'd get one of these but I don't want to be chirpin' into second every time, as far as I'm aware it makes every shift quite jerky, regardless if you have your foot flat down or not.
That's the beauty of a M/T. If you want to snap into second so hard your passengers suffer mild wiplash you can, but you can still drive like a granny if you want.
