I'd say if you want to get into the HPI top street tyre lists that you should forget about the 1J, at least if you want to get a decent position.
Why? Well the class you'll be in is over 2400 RWD which means you'll be competeing against engines of any capacity bigger than yours basically.
If I were trying to get a Toyota onto a decent position on those lists I'd build a 3S stroker. Big cams huge turbo plenty of fuel supply and good management will make the power needed. Then put it into either an AW11 or a KE25. The AW11 has a traction advantage but the KE25 has the weight advantage.
This way you're using a light car with an engine in the upper reachs of it's capacity class rather than the smallest engine possible.
