The engineer didn't even bat an eyelid at the spacers on mine. I would rather a spacer pad than to have the pistons pop out when the brake pad is worn. I did mine with pieces of 3mm mild steel sheet (1 each side) for my HiLux 4 spotters (using 22mm disc instead of the 28mm rotors) and as stated above I copied the anti-squeal plate and made them complete with tabs that assist with the location on the back of the pad.
