Kind of... Except that the RON figure is actually useful whereas PMPO is only useful if you've got a small penis.
RON describes fuel characteristics during low load, low speed driving. The stuff Mum & Dad are interested in.
MON describes fuel characteristics during high load, high temperature, high speed driving. The stuff that we are interested in.

But yes, they are 2 different ways of measuring octane. It is for this reason that the USA always seem to run "shit" fuel compared to us (eg. 87 octane unleaded), but their measurements are in MON, not RON.

The US figure is the AKI (Anti-Knock Index) isn't it? Average of RON and MON?
