fwiw, i have tried advance between about 15 and 35 base advance... basically, you will find a point beyond which power will drop off and the motor will make more noise but less go. past that you may ping, but mine doesn't tend to.. just loses power.
you will probably find that different base advance will be better at diferent rev ranges. just try by advancing maybe 2deg at a time and go for a drive..
