its much easier to tune the timing map to make it not ping no matter what happens

a std ecu has thousands of outcomes
if this does this then do that
it calculates a shitload of stuff

aftermarket ecus only have afew outcomes
this is becuase it just has to meet one outcome

performance is mainly why u go for afterm, arket
if u wanted economy u would go std

plus std ecus need to meet emissions so thats y thet have soooo many outcomes

so its much easier to just adjust the timing in the timing map and make it stop pinging

therefore the only other way to make an engine ping is overboost or overheat

plus for the knock control to work properly i woul dguess that the aftermarket ecu that does it will be way out of yr price range

when i tell people the price of a motec with most of the shit in it they freak
