yup, shorted wire... what about the wires from the points to the coil.. it's not shorting either inside or outside of the dizzy?
do you have 12V to the coil, and the -ve side only goes to the points?
to check if the coil is ok, take all the wires off the -ve side of coil, then attach a wire to the -ve aide of coil, touch it briefly to a ground (battery is good), when you break the connection, you will get a spark.
what you could do is to get an LED (with appropriate resistor) and connect it between power and the points. turn the motor over. if the LED flashes, then the points an it's circuit are working..
you may have a loose lead somewhere, you may have an internal failure of the coil or the condensor etc etc..
check each part one by one..
