Rule of thumb i use for posting stuff back to Aus that I get from Japan Yahoo Auctions is AU$250 per 10kg... regardless of size and shape...
Get a surfboard cover or something similar and jam all your goodies into that and put it onto the plane... might have to pay excess luggage fee but still cheaper than postage.
If Aussie customs see you have new items that you are bringing in they may try to charge you a fee.
