Don't the short socks have springs in them to stop them sucking in or is it the end surface that gets sucked in.

It's the ends that get sucked down onto the tube which then restricts the airflow causing the mtr to over fuel badly.
Have seen it happen on several cars inc mine.We all use the long socks now.
