if you are planning on running subs of this size that we are talking about, you will only need to run some nice 2 or 3way 6" speakers in the rear shelf, you will not need to fit 7*10's or 6*9's as the power you will require to run these is just wasted because you do no need any further bass, due to the large amounts of rear bass fill provided by the subs, and by only using 6" speakers you are reducing installation weight and you will have more room on your rear shelf. Another bonus is that thieves are no so interested in little speakers.
When i talked about porting the rear shelf, what i was meaning is just the use of one 4" port, which will give you great projection of bass into the cabin and reduce some of the boot pressure, and chances are if you are running speakers in the rear shelf, you have made a plywood or MDF shelf that has insulated the bass from entering the car even more.
A few of my mates have subs in their old school celicas and i find that they lack the ability to mix all the music together to create a good sound stage, so by adding a port you are bringing more music into the car and will slightly reduce you rear rattles, eg, the extra pressure vibrating the pannels in the boot will be reduced. Just make a nice cover you can put over the rear port so that it will not draw unwanted attention when parked and unattended, because as soon as they see ports, well you know the saying, "where there is smoke there is fire", well in the stereo industry, "WHERE THERE IS PORTS THERE IS SUBS".
My advice is dont just go and blow a SHIT LOAD of dollars ($$$) on massive subs and amps, when you can buy something not quite so good, put some thought into the installation and make it sound better than someone who has spent twice as much as you and has just whacked their install together.

hope this will help you in your ways
