The "1.5JZ" is quite common in Japan now, but you have to understand why they do it. There are plenty of JZA70 owners with worn out 1JZ's, and it turns out that a brand new 2JZ bottom end is cheaper than rebuilding the 1JZ bottom end - so they simply swap in the new 2JZ core and leave everything else as is. The result is a fresh engine with the extra benefit of another 500cc.
I haven't heard of anyone with a 2JZ-GTE who replaced the head with a 1JZ-GTE item - I can't think of any reason this would be an improvement.
