i know it is dangerous to cut springs but if done properly you can get a set of springs alot cheaper than you would pay for a brand new set of lowered springs. The trick is to get a set of springs for your car that will fit in your car (ie rodeo ute springs for a holden gemini)that are stiffer and then cut them, do it sensibly though as to not go too far. A friend has had great success with the ride and height of a variation of holden springs in his gemini and I have experimented with my Toyota Tercel which has standard springs that are stiff as already and it rides no different now days (just lower, you try buying a set of lowered coils for a 1984 Toyota Tercel 4wd SR5) . You just need after market double action shocks from what I have heard, so you don't screw your standard shocks.

I am not trying to encorage the cutting of springs, but this whole thing about it being the most dangerous thing is not as true as you make it. I have seen more dangerous cars getting around with standard springs than I have with cut springs.

It is really a budget, availablity (yeah the Tercel)and how much you want to play around with them, you don't just "pull em out n cut em n chuck em back in n see how she rides ay", there is a bit more to it than that if you do it properly.

That is my opinion anyway. I know the next car I get (more popular model) I will be buying proper lowered coils for it, just because it is easier etc.
