The standard oil sooler is a good thing due to the fact taht it gets the oil temps up to operating temps much faster. The water is heated a lot more quickly than the oil and this hotter water allows the oil to come up to temperature quickly. The fact is you don't want oil temperatures any lower than the water temp so in terms of being an oil cooler the stock one is good.
In terms of packaging though it is a bit of a nightmare and has some reliability issues due to the dodgy hoses on it.
