they look like rose joints to me -with rubber weatherproofing boots over the top of them. that's common practice,and a good idea. the joints last a lot longer that way. it even says they're 'pillow tension rods' in the paperwork sitting next to them in the pic. I have custom rods with cusco joints in my car. their joints look similar,they're just blue instead of black... $450 is a decent price for bolt in rods,shipped to you. the Japanese retail is about $300. factor in 6% sales tax,shipping and duties,and it's not too bad a deal.
