Les - Like said above, Quarrantine if they see mud, ciggarettes or dirty car they apparently hose it down with chemicals.
all mods must be removed and car taken back to stock form.
depending on car being imported.. just the seat belts, side intrusion bar and filler neck on most 2 doors.
you can do this yourself or mechanic. then take it to an engineer to get papers.
blue slip then usual rego stuff.
Les wrote on Sat, 26 February 2005 15:44 | Hi to those of you who have imported 15+ year old cars into australia (i know there are some trueno owners out there ) can i ask you a few questions ...
when the car gets into australia, what happens ??
from what I have read, the car needs to be taken to a workshop to have "compliance type mods" made to it i.e. safety belt, mirrors etc etc. to "comply" with ADR's ... (can these mods be done by ANY mechanic ? or are there some specific mechanic in Sydney that specialise in these compliance type mods?)
after this is done, does it need a COMPLIANCE PLATE ?? or is this only for cars imported under SEVS ? what i mean is, once the compliance type mods have been done, can the car be then blue slipped, get CTP then get registered ... ?
I have read that tyres may be an issue, but is that only for cars imported under SEVS or does it also apply to 15+ year old car imports too ?
just trying to see whether these 15+ year old cars are actually worth buying !
(please if you dont know the answers to these questions dont reply!!)
EDIT 1
No need compliance plate for 15+ y.o. cars (yesssss)
