Re: how to tell what spring rating my springs are?

Construct a lever system, that will allow more force on the spring with far less weights.
If you for example have a 1 to 10 ratio lever. Hang 10kg at far end, you get 100kg action on the spring.
For track racing something like 60kg/cm is a common ballpark for springs. To get such spring to compress 5cm, you need 300kg acting on the spring.
All you need is a metal stick anchored onto garage floor, about the height of a free spring. Bolt on a long lever onto it and you're all set.
Secure spring onto garage floor with a steel wire. If things go wrong that will prevent it from shooting all around in your garage.
This system involves some labour but you'll get really accurate redings from springs.
