Car/other things in Japan? your stories? advice?

Hey All,
well it comes down to this.. i'll be in japan for 2 years, starting June.
what i'd love is to hear from people who have either:
a) been to japan, and know of interesting car places to go, where to buy bits n pieces etc etc, and what areas are popular.
b) have organised freight from WITHIN japan, to australia. what companies, how to get it to the docks etc etc.
c) have sent bulk stuff to japan (ie belongings)
i'll be living in Sapporo, Hokkaido for the first year, but might be transferring down to Tsukuba (NW of Tokyo) for the second year.
i's also like to hear insights from people that have lived there... rent, food, phones, internet, auction sites good for car parts.. all of lifes necessities  .....
and no, i am not taking orders for parts.... yet...
