our VT started doing this mate, holden quoted about $1400 to fix the shit, simply because the airbag had to be "detonated" and replaced, $4 worth of sealer and almost 18 months later, shes still not smoking

I fixed this problem on my brother's VT. The VT's heater core had a seal then the inlet and outlet where bolted in. This seal went and coolant was leaking past the seal, burning and smoking out the vents. The new heater core we got from holden didn't have the seal . . it was all one piece.
I always thought that it smelt a bit like pancakes mmmmmm
