when you change the rear you are just using the external housing, the shifter and the selector forks (because the length is now different). This will not have any bearing on strength. The strength issue relates to bearings/gears/input,output shafts etc depending on who you listen to. None of these change. The only internal bits you are changing are the selectors that connect teh gear lever to the syncro hubs.
Have a look at both boxes, from the rear they are identical apart fromt eh shifter location and the shifter itself.
