Unless your laptop has a Firewire port(otherwise known as 1394) it's video capturing/editing capacity is pretty limited. If you do have a firewire port got an borrow a MiniDV video camera from someone for a day. Failing that this USB capture device is probably your next best friend, they plug into your USB port and let you capture from SVIDEO or your "3 Plugs".
