AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+ Processor Retail (939)
ASUS A8N-SLI nForce 4 SLI Socket 939 Motherboard
1024MB PC4200 DDR2 RAM Corsair twin pack (2X512MB )
Seagate Serial ATA NCQ 200GB 7200RPM 8mb Cache
Asus Extreme EN6600GT-TD-128 PCI Express TV DVI
LG T910B 19 inch Flat CRT Monitor
Pioneer DVR-109BK 16X DVD-/+R/RW Dual Layer (OEM, Black)(w/no software)
Antec Plus 1080AMG Case with 430W PSU
Logitech Cordless Desktop Black Keyboard & Mouse LX700

CPU: Good. If you like spending $93 more than a 3200+ CPU.

Motherboard: good

RAM: OK, if the athlon64 on that board supported DDR2. Do some more research.

HDD: I'd personally RAID 2x 120GB (like I am now), but the NCQ should be an OK drive. Actually, if your friend suggested DDR2 RAM, I'd just stick with the one HDD.

Video card: I'd look at this instead: http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show.php?art_no=vi ALx_6600_gtv_vivo VIVO man! That's the card I'm looking at.

Monitor: LG is complete crap. I'd look at a 17" LCD screen personally. Or just another brand of CRT.

DVD burner: Good. I'd also buy another plain old DVD reader drive as well ~$40.

Case: OK. But if you want THE shit, get a TT shark like I have. It's not that much more, and whatever case you get, you'll need to buy an EPS powersupply for the motherboard anyway as it's got a 24pin header, not a standard 20pin power header. Smack your friend up about that one too. Tell him to get an antec or topower and not a craparse codegen.

Keyboard/mouse: Whatever rocks your boat. Personally I really CBF'd with cordless devices and having to replace/recharge (batteries) the bastards all the time.
