Yea, sure, you can get them going pretty hard.
I am trying to decide whether to go for 300hp with a turbo (engineering $$$$$) or go for 200hp with no turbo.
I've already got many of the turbo bits (and I found another engine at a swap meet today, with a turbo drain hole in the sump and 8.5:1 pistons !!!! I know, I didn't know these existed, but they do, it;s cast into their crown! 88232 gen number.
Naturally aspirated is always an option.
When you say big carbies, just how big are we talking?
you can rebuild these incompletely, just do the bearings, rings and anything that is either stuffed or seals oil, and the timing chains.
I expect you would do that for a relatively reasonable price.
