Alot of old carbies, even if driven each day, have a lot of soot built up in the exhaust, and when the due settles in it, it liquifys and becomes like unburnt fuel to the eye...
Alls it is, is soot with water in it.
As for the fumes in the cabin, it sounds as though you have an exhaust leak, most likely around the point the headers join the exhaust system
