1. You would be amazed how sloppy they feel with a dead (or no) bushing.
2. Sometimes the pin that goes through the ball in the shifter can get bent and or broken too... that allows the shifter to twist as well as the normal north south east west movement.
3. The spring returns which cause the shifter to return to its central position often lose their punch and can make the shifter extremely easy to move east / west.
These problems are all pretty easy to fix and most parts are interchangable between toyota gearboxes.
Buy the bush new though as its only worth a few bucks from Toyota.
