Yes the car is already registered and has been since 1996 so hopefully the conversion and compliance shouldn't give me too many headaches. Anyway it helps having a DOT certifying engineer as a club member...
I'm in the process of building another car as a full ICV (fabricating custom space-frame chassis) to fit the complete drivetrain and engine from a Skyline GTR into a Lotus 11 body shape (500kg car, AWD and 300+kw but thats another story). So I'm not too worried about a small engine conversion.
I'm not wanting a huge amount of power out of the engine as in a 500kg RWD car it would become almost undrivable. I run a quaife LSD in the diff with a 7inch ford Escort crown wheel (4.444:1 ratio) all this is in a cast alloy IRS unit. With all of this i can still smoke both tires at will. Wider rears will be a must for the 4AGTE.
With the bog stock 86kw engine it already runs low 14sec 1/4 miles so i don't really need to be trying to get 200kw out of the engine to make it go fast. It would be interesting though...
The reason i cant use the supercharger is that as it hangs off the side of the engine it is smack in the way of the steering column. I could modify the steering system but a turbo engine may make it more driveable as the small(??) amount of lag with a T28 may allow for some traction as opposed to the instant torque from a supercharged engine.
