I know of at least two RA23/28's with 1JZ-GTE's installed, and that's with no firewall mods. It's a big job to do it right, but it can be done. The 2JZ-GTE is the same length and width but it's a little bit taller, so it should fit but modifications to the bonnet may be necessary for headroom.

Of course the car's overall weight will go through the roof and chassis balance will be utterly screwed. Half the reason I own an old Celica is because it's so light and "chuckable" - but if you put a big lump of six in the front you're just left with an overpowered 25 year old car that's good for drag racing and not much else.

IMO a 3S-GTE conversion is a much better option. It will be cheaper, it will go in much easier, weight/chassis balance won't be affected, and it will develop more power than an RA23 can realistically use on the street.
