Motor wise, only oil leaks, providing the engine has been looked after.

And this is usally limited to cam seals, and cam cover gaskets.
Valve stem seals are pretty common to go too.
Look for a puff of smoke on startup, and after long idles.

Make sure all the intake piping has no leaks in it. Leaks are very common.

Check the timing too, bad timing = poor performance.

Diffs and auto's are usually on their way out at this stage of their life if they are the original one.
But replacements can be found cheaply.
And it probably doesn't matter if its an interim car.

Expect the suspension to be soft and squishy too.


All in all, nothing more wrong that you'd expect from a 17 year old car.
