Well not really, if there is a problem with the wiring(sensor dies or there is any other form of abnormallity) the ecu record this data and usually if its bad enough will go into limp home mode. when shorted the idle should drop a little and if you check the timing before you should have 15-18 deg btdc, shorten connector and it should drop to 10-12deg btdc

Shorting the connector tells the ecu to tell you what codes are present, thru the flashes of the check engine light.

fwiw 10 flashes means nothing is wrong
