Isn't this due to the fact that race prepped boxes would have straight cut rather than helical gearsets? It's not only to do with the syncromesh but the actual gears as well.
I think the point is that many of our cars here would be daily drivers, hence if an installed item (regardless of whether it's used for race or not) causes damamge to the car, it would be useful to know about it beforehand.
