Hmmm, dunno about the ute or convertible conversion, but easiest/most reliable way to pick an 88Kw motor from the 100Kw one is the intake manifold. There will be either a T-VIS badge on top of the 88Kw one, or a little raised block for a badge to sit on if the badge is gone.
On closer inspection of the intake manifold, there will be 8 intake runners coming out of the plenum and going into the head (2 for each cylinder), whereas the 100Kw motor has the typical 4 intake runners.
