I did the exact same thing to mine last week. It ends up warming up & idling at about 2000rpm, as the air bypass stays open, and when the engine is cold it won't run for shit with the valve fully closed.
I ended up hooking it back up, but I would like to get rid of it, if only I could come up with an electricaly operated valve that I could hook up to my computer, instead of one operated by coolant temp....
