NGK tests show that the Resistance does very little to the spark energy, it just reduces the current a little, and reduces the electrical noise emitted, which is/can be important when you have sensors nearby. the reason for Pt/Ir plugs (iridium is a platinum group metal is sometimes substituted for platinum in alloys as it is fuckloads cheaper), is because they wear away a lot slower. they can still foul like normal plugs. the design of the electrodes is also very different, with the Pt/Ir plus having amuch finer centre electrode, which supposedly gives the initial flame greater access to the surrounding mixture etc etc... in reality, they are good if you only want to change your plugs every 100,000km's or so. afaik there is not really much performance gain to be had. what are your plug gaps at now? too big a gap will produce poorer firing than a smaller gap... unless you have an uber coil...
