well, first thing you could do is get great tyres. that will increase yur grip level and maybe make it easier to identify what you need to alter in the suspension.
then see if there are bolt on upgrades that were optional items for your car (like as you said, brakes) and then look to shocks and springs perhaps?
also check all your bushings as the extra compliance from rooted bushes will affect how the car feels..
oh and search the net for ppl who have modded their AW11's with good results..
