You should really be tightening to the correct torque. I have it listed at home if you need it, but any Corolla service manual should have it.
Check the threads of the stub axle (CV joint) and see if they are worn or streached.
Invest in a torque wrench. best $90 you can spend if you do a lot of work on your own car!
