Sun, 10 April 2005 05:11 "The RTA says speed is a contributing factor in 42 per cent of road fatalities. Within those speed-related deaths, however, 31 per cent involved a drunk driver, 20 per cent involved a person who failed to wear a seatbelt (or a motorcycle helmet) and 12 per cent involved an unlicensed driver. People who make bad decisions in relation to risk often die on the road." (source: smh) so speed alone is a factor in about 15% of total road fatalities.
