DO NOT LET HER BUY AN EXCEL AT ALL COSTS!!!

My missus bought one brand new four and a bit years ago and it was without doubt THE worst decision she ever made.

At approx 20,000kms (that's not a mistake - TWENTY THOU on a new engine, NOT 200,000) the engine had no be rebuilt as the gudgeon pin had worn the piston oval!!!

At approx 36,000kms the gearbox had to be rebuilt as second, third and fourth syncros's were shot

During the rest of the time we owned it we replaced the AC compressor, PS pump, alternator, both elec fans, water pump, broken clip holding the driveshaft into the gearbox (again at 20,000kms - oil everywhere) and probably other things I've forgotten. Try as we might we could never get a decent wheel allignment setup on the car and the bastard rattled like a babies toy from the moment we picked it up. When we got rid of the car it only had a measly 100,000kms on it.

The car has now been passed on to my wifes sister and she put it in for a major service and they came back to her and said there's some problem with the cams (I didn't listen intently coz that car shits me to tears Mad).

I rate ALL of the excels and their renamed replacements (Accent and whatever they are calling it now) as being at least equal to the legendary Lemon's the Leyland P38 and the Chrysler Centura. For Christ sake buy a Corolla but not a friggen Excel.........make that excel as it doesn't deserve a capital letter Smile
