dude... easier and far better to get a brand spankers new one! Increases in alarm technology over the past 10 years have been big! especially in terms of reliability!
Go to any top notch car audio/car security shop and ask to see the range, and ask about what is "insurance approved". Also ask you insurer if there is an alarm/immobiliser that you can istall to reduce your premium. If there is none, features to look for are:
- all black wiring
- min 2 point on board immobilisation relays (more is better!)
- central locking control
- automatic immobilisation
- dual stage shock sensor
- ability to add on extras (like microwave sensors, auto window winders, boot release etc)
- rolling code (is a MUST)
- anything else is good
