I currently have standard ceramic turbines in mine, which i had reconditioned.Any turbo shop can recon them for you.I had steel turbine wheels in,and i pulled these out so I could do a B4 and after dyno to compare power figures, but there was no difference. The steel wheels came from the CT12 turbos in the 1ggte motor. They are slightly different shape, but fit with no mods, due to sharing the same shaft diameter.I think the turbo guy uses CT12 bearings on the turbine end and CT12A bearings on copmpressor end. They start making positive boost at the same revs as each other, even though the ceramic wheel and shaft weighs half as much as the steel one.Yeah i do run higher boost, sometimes it spikes to 19psi and then holds 16 psi.(on the dyno or drag racing). The only disadvantage of the steelies is that they whistle a tiny bit under heavy acceleration(some people wouldn't even notice it)-we think this noise is due to the extra clearance in the exhaust housing due to different shaped wheel.I have no experience of high flowing CT12A turbos.I was quoted $850 each to high flow them(compressor and exhaust ends).I also loolked at using CT12B (MK4 Supra) compressor wheels and housings. The housings are surprisingly similar in size, andare a direct fit, however, the plumbing to and from them is different, and the compressor wheels(significantly larger than Ct12A ones)require a thicker shaft. The CT12B shaft is too fat to fit the CT12A core.Machining and sleeving was cost prohibitive.Especially when you realise that the most a CT12B equipped engine can dyno is 242rwkW,and I know of two CT12A equipped soarers that did 225 rw kW.Not a big difference considering the difference in size of compressor wheels. My turbo shop and I spent weeks and $ trying to come up with a cost effective, standard looking power upgrade for the CT12A turbos and eventually had to let it go.I firmly believe that the 1jZ(and 2JZ)motor is held back hugely by its standard turbos, and i will demonstrate this in the next few months when I install a Garrett GT30 turbo onto one of my 1JZ motors. Adi,your engines symptoms are not familiar to me,hence I will not speculate as to what the hang is going on,mate.
