The 1G engine will bolt straight into any of the hilux's post 85 up to 98 (RN85). The main reason are that the RWD Celica's share many of the part's in the hilux's. Slight massaging of the firewall is need to fit a 1G engine into the hilux. The Drivetrain will handle (diff) the 1ggte or ZE power or torque quite easily. (HILUX 2" shafts Vs celica's 1" stuff) and gearboxes for the 1G will bolt up to the hilux X-member and so will the driveshaft. As for the 7M a late model 1GGTE or a earlier model 1J (JA-70) engine would be choice, ie 2.0L or 2.5L turbo would be easly engineered over a 3.0L Turbo, plus the I'm not 100% the length of the 7M hence fitting to the hilux drive train. Also a 3VZ (3.0L) or 5VZ (3.5L) with the TRD supercharger (US) would be by far even easier with just a change of bellhousing (4Runnner) to get a bigger capacity engine and similar power to the 7M.
