the guy who said the clutch fan doesn't use extra power was only giving half the story.
Of course when the engine is cool, the fan does not spin, these fans can either be fulid filled, or a temperature controlled spring. both do the same thing, when the temp rises, the fan is made to spin and at this point, there is now (minimal but) extra load...
so unless your fan knows it is time to race, (chances are you've been cruising round for the right falcon/holden/torana/escort/excel/lancer to blow, on the right strip of road), the cluch fan is engaged when it comes time to drop the clutch.

Tell the guy that explained clutch fans to you that next time he should tell the whole story. the fact is and i'm not being rude, just a smart ass, anything attached to the motor via a fan belt uses power. but if you aren't out to beat anyone, sure stick to the fan, I wouldn't.
