The above reference to the older rear wheel drive celicas is interesting. How are these any less suited to drift than a 4AC powered Aus Spec AE86??? An RA23 for example has the same basic live axle setup in the rear end as an AE86. The only true mechanical/technical advantage an AE86 Aus spec has over this type of old celica is that the AE86 has rack and pinion. Apart from that, very little. The RA23 has good f/r balance too so I don't want to hear about the amazing sprintah weight distribution.
I would say that a TA22/RA23/RA28 would be worthy of looking at especially if you pick up a cheap one with an engine upgrade. But I wouldn't want to see a celica trashed so I won't recommend such a nice classic car for this purpose.
Get a frickin 4 door sprintah!! The AE71 sedan!! Just as good as any sprintah in every respect and cheaper too.
