Well, The 7AGE should look like this...

For your sake, their are a few differences worth noting. Pistons, use the same ones for that head, ie GE pistons with GE Head. Since you want a GZE, use the GZE pistons and head, or aftermarket forgies will cost over $1100. Also GE/GZE pistons are a Floating type, While the FE has interference fitting Pistons, So the FE rods need a slight mod to fit GE/GZE pistons. T/Belt, Yes the 944 is needed as 7A is a taller block. Price wise, So far The most expensive one I have bought has been a 10,000km Jap import @$750, If you look around, you can get them (As a dud) for as little as $150-200.
Yes , vernier gears would be smart, get the head cleaned up, ported, ($660) etc. Your standard ECU will hold up in standard form but with cams, extra boost, I would recommend an aftermarket ECU.
