Re: What Gearbox for a 12r
Thu, 28 April 2005 01:20
Is it a 3 or 5 bearing mains 12R?
We need to know this before we can proceed.
If it is a 3 main bearing engine, mate a W50 (or L50 if you wish to remain column shift) gearbox to your current bellhousing. Use the current clutch. Forget about all other gearboxes.
If it is a 5 main bearing engine, you could mate a W50/L50 using your current bellhousing or use an appropriate bellhousing to mate a W56/7/8/9. You will find the right bellhousing behind a 21R.
Personally, I'd just use the W50. Very cheap and will last forever and a day behing a 12R.
If this is a 3 mains bearing 12R, you might want to be a little careful about modifying this motor. The crank is obviously less well supported and, whilst I have never seen it, they are prone to breaking cranks.
