there are two ignition circuits... one is the "sub-ign" circuit which turns off whilst cranking as you mentioned... the other is the MAIN IGN circuit which STAYS ON whilst cranking.
these names above i made up, but they explain it well.
Your coil (and most of your engine/ECU) gets its power from the EFI main relay - which is a relay triggered by the main ign signal..... this wire is BLACK/orange
read the 4agze ECU pinout descriptions and wiring diagrams in the club4ag.com tech reference.
