Oh, and i've heard about people using their standard rails on aftermarket seats... what's the go with that? legal? safe? practical?
Thats what I have done in a number of cars, all of which have passed engineering and rego. It's the easiest option in most (not all) cases.

Safe?
Well I purchased a car that had aftermarket fixed back buckets with adaptors mounting the seat to the original rails. The car was bent as a banana (bent right in the middle after hitting a light pole on the passenger side, the passenger door was touching the drivers seat). The seat mounts used much thinner steel than I use and appeared to hold up well (using the drivers seat as the example) in the impact, made me feel pretty confident about the safety of mine
