Jap copy (hitachi from memory) have better tunability due a nicer linkage setup (well on the 240z anyway).
What you should do as well is buy a kit to recondition the SUs since they are probably farken old. Re-kitted SU's are much nicer/easier to tune and stay in tune. Very simple carby but works well - just make sure the oil is OK.
My dad can tune them by ear with a bit of garden hose!
