Your registration does not get cancelled. Technically the car is still registered, even if the defect clear time has finished (normally 72 hours). If you take your car to the RTA station say 2 weeks later, get it un defected, then you will be back on the road with whatever registration that you still have. You dont get an extension on the reg.
If the car is defected for a long period of time, and the registration runs out, you wont be able to re-register that car until the defect is cleared.
