Sun, 08 May 2005 08:02 with a suck-through system the question is not do you "need" an intercooler - but would you really want one. think about fuel going through it (the fuel being fed by the carby into the supercharger)... if this now atomised (misty) fuel goes thru said intercooler then the mixture will at least partially condense. you now have fuel in your intercooler. if the car now backfires your intercooler will turn into a small explosive device - rather amusing in a controlled experiment but not the best thing to have happen!!! now - blow-off valve. used primarily as a noise-maker and said to prevent air pumps (turbo's/supercharge...maybe) from coming off boost during gear changes and letting off the throttle by venting the boost that is restricted (usually by the throttle butterfly in an efi system). since the way you are setting up your system is not gonna be like this then a bov would be seemingly a waste of money (not to mention that similarly to your intercooler it would vent atomised petrol into H O T engine bay possibly causing spot fires to break out... probably not what you really want hey? my advice would be to go through with the suck-through set up using the carb -> supercharger -> pipework/manifold as my mechanic is doing on a ke30 'rolla!!! if you do that and run low boost then as long as you have enough fuel getting in (ie make sure the person rebuilding your carby knows what its intended application is so that they can at least approximate a decent jet size as you won't want it running lean. good luck chief [Report message to a moderator]
